Don’t Be Afraid of No

For some reason we are afraid of this very small word. A word that is universal and and has only one meaning. I don't know if it's because the word is so final. Or how direct the word is, but so many people struggle with the word no. You have people who are afraid to say it and or afraid to hear it. I guess it's because this word does carry a little power, however it's up to the person giving or receiving to determine how much power the word actually carries.

Don't Be Afraid to Say No

Let's start with telling someone no. Have you noticed when how people will struggle to tell someone no. People usually are afraid to say no because they don't want to look like the bad guy. They don't want to hurt or upset the person who is asking so they give indirect answers or avoid the person all together. In the end you end up looking like a even bigger bad guy because you wasn't up front with the person. Yes telling someone no can be hard, but it won't kill them. Not only that but you save yourself the guilt or shame of not being able to be upfront with someone. I'm sure being direct would be more respected that betting around the bush.

Don't Be Afraid of Hearing No

This is where I struggle. I'll be honest and say I have no problem saying no to something. So much so that I have to check myself because I over use the word. Even though I have no problem say no, I struggle with asking for help or putting myself out there because I'm afraid of hearing no. This could be because of pride or the fear of being rejected. What I'm learning is No may be the person I'm asking final answer, but it doesn't mean it's the end for me. Hearing no is not the end of the world and it doesn't mean it's the end. The only way to stop being afraid of hearing no is to understand that.

There's no need to be afraid of this word. Its ok to tell others no and being to told won't kill you. The word no may be a complete sentence, but it doesn't have to be final.

Peace and Love
